Project
Design and develop a complete suite of learning materials to support a two-day resilience exercise for students aged 13–15, including pre-event resources, interactive digital content, facilitator materials, and post-event assets.
Challenge
The objective was to create an engaging, memorable experience that would immerse students in realistic emergency response scenarios while developing key life skills, including decision-making, critical thinking, teamwork, and data interpretation.
The programme also needed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world application, demonstrating how subjects within the national curriculum relate to careers in resilience and emergency planning. As the event was delivered to groups of students working simultaneously, the experience had to be intuitive, accessible, and carefully structured to keep participants engaged while maintaining a consistent pace across all teams.
Solution
Working alongside our copywriting team, we transformed the campaign into a cohesive learning experience with its own visual identity and supporting ecosystem of assets. I was responsible for the implementation of the creative concept designed by the creative team and transferred the look and feel to various visual materials, including pre-event packs, digital interface, and a range of multimedia assets that supported the live exercises.
Using Articulate Storyline 360, I designed and built an interactive eLearning platform that guided students through each stage of the event. The platform acted as the central hub throughout the two days, combining video content, downloadable resources, external links, scenario updates, and interactive activities to create an immersive learning journey.
To ensure all teams progressed together, I implemented password-protected milestones that prevented participants from advancing before facilitator-led activities had been completed. This maintained the pace of the exercise while reinforcing collaboration and discussion.
In addition to the digital experience, I designed a series of reward stickers recognising students who demonstrated exceptional teamwork, leadership, or problem-solving throughout the event. Following the programme's success, I also adapted the Storyline experience into an interactive PowerPoint version, giving the client greater flexibility for future delivery.
Outcome
The event was extremely well received by both students and facilitators, with particular praise for the immersive nature of the digital experience and the way it brought emergency planning to life.
The client commented:
"You enabled the students to experience what it's like for us resilience professionals when dealing with incidents in real life… at times it felt real even to me! The programme was designed to deliver the different scenario injects in a unique, immersive way."
